What God Said

Have you ever heard God speak? Maybe through Scripture, a song, or the quiet moments of your day? What did He say, and how did it make you feel?
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
Reflection
Before Jesus, God often spoke through prophets. He would give them a message, and they would share it with His people.
Isaiah 41:10 is a verse I come back to often. Why? Because even though God was speaking to people back then, He is still speaking to us today. When I read these words, I feel like He is speaking directly to me. It’s a powerful, personal reminder of His presence and care.

Read it again: “I am with you.” “I will strengthen you.” “Help you.” “Uphold you.”
What an incredible promise from the Creator of the universe. He’s not distant—He is right here, offering strength, help, and support. And if we’re honest, we all have moments when we desperately need that.
There are times in life when we desperately need this promise. Uncertainty, hardship, and unexpected struggles can shake us—but God is always there. The question is, do we lean into Him? Do we take hold of His promises, or do we let fear take over?
There have been plenty of times in my life when God has directly communicated with me. Often, it happens in the quiet—when I focus, slow down, and open my heart to listen. But it also happens in the middle of the day, in the most unexpected ways.
Hearing God Through Music
Music has a way of speaking truth at just the right moment. The Bible is our ultimate source of wisdom, but sometimes, a song lyric comes along that captures exactly what we’re feeling. That happened to me recently with Brandon Lake’s song Hard Fought Hallelujah. The opening lyric hit me right away:
“Yeah, I don’t always feel it
Yeah, but that’s when I need it the most”
Pretty powerful, right?
Who can’t relate to this? Despite what Isaiah shared and what we know through the death and resurrection of Jesus, there are still moments when those promises feel distant. That’s our earthly self holding on too tightly—resisting the Spirit-led life God calls us into.

And let’s be real—this journey of faith isn’t always easy. You and I both know people who are going through incredibly difficult seasons. Maybe you’re going through one yourself. We might say, “Keep the faith,” but let’s be honest—that’s much easier said than done. Especially when you feel lost, lonely, crushed by your circumstances, or stuck in your own way.
God Is Speaking—Are We Listening?
But pause for a moment. Be still. Listen to the silence.
That gentle voice—the quiet one that speaks love, truth, and encouragement—is there. The Spirit of God, dwelling within us, is always near.
Another way God has spoken to me is through other people. There have been moments when someone said something, showed me something, or encouraged me in a way that was exactly what I needed to hear. And I know it wasn’t random. God knew what was on my heart, and He used that moment to remind me: I see you. I am here. I care.
In Hard Fought Hallelujah, the lyrics go on to say:
“‘Cause God, you’ve been patient
God, You’ve been gracious
Faithful whatever I’m feeling or facing”
God is speaking right now. Right here.
What if we all paid more attention to Him? What if we sought His direction, His wisdom, His peace? What if we asked Him to lift our burdens and fill us with His joy?
Today, let’s ask: Lord, what do You need me to do for You?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for those who speak Your truth into our lives. Thank You for the songwriters, the performers, and the people You place in our path to remind us of Your presence. Thank You for always being patient and loving. Help us stay connected to You, tuning out the noise of the world so we can hear Your voice more clearly. Keep our families, our friends, and ourselves safe. We pray this in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
