Do You Not Know?

How many times have you been asked a question and realized you didn’t know the answer? Then once you heard it, you wondered how you ever missed it in the first place.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” - Isaiah 40:28 NIV

Reflection

I enjoy landing on Old Testament verses. This one from Isaiah reads like a man who believes you should already know this and is surprised that you don’t.

Have you ever really taken time to think about God the Father? Just sat quietly and reflected on who God actually is?

I started a devotional and was reading through Genesis and the creation story. It is actually a very easy read, yet at the same time almost overwhelming to consider. In a single day God created extraordinary things. Birds. Fish. Life everywhere.

When you stop and think about the number of species in those creations alone, it becomes difficult to fully grasp. Not just the numbers, but the beauty, complexity, and uniqueness of what was created.

Isaiah seems to carry that same sense of awe when he speaks about God.

I think at times we focus so much on Jesus that we forget how consistently Jesus points us toward the Father. Provocative thought, right? But think about it for a moment. God came to us in human form so we could better understand Him. The Creator of all things stepping into creation itself.

This is the same God who placed planets into motion, formed galaxies, and created a universe so massive we still cannot comprehend it.

Then Isaiah reminds us that God does not grow tired or weary. Honestly, that is probably a good thing. Because I know I have tested God’s patience more than once. I have said things, thought things, and done things that were not a very good reflection of the Spirit God placed inside of me.

Maybe that is part of the point.

We take this incredible Creator for granted far more often than we realize. Truthfully, we do.

But perhaps we can begin changing that. Maybe we can become more intentional about appreciating God for who He is and all He has done. Maybe we can slow down long enough to recognize what has already been provided for us.

My point here is simple.

Isaiah is right.

Do you not know?

Maybe it is time to know Him more deeply. And all you really have to do is start.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for these words and the time to reflect on them. Thank you for your creation and all you allow me to experience within it. Thank you for your grand design and for allowing me to live inside of it. Help me appreciate you more. Help me better understand just how incredible you are. Help me enjoy your creation more fully and be more present within it. Help me honor the life you have given me and the people you have placed around me. I pray this in the name of Jesus, my Savior and Lord. Amen.
